The Hey Shorty Scholarship Program is a dedicated initiative aimed at providing educational opportunities and support for teenage girls and gender-fluid youth who demonstrate exceptional academic potential, leadership qualities, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. This scholarship program is designed to address the unique challenges that young girls and gender-fluid youth may face in pursuing their education and career aspirations.

The Hey Shorty Scholarship Program aims to break down barriers and empower teenage girls and gender-fluid youth to reach their full potential academically, professionally, and personally. It recognizes the importance of investing in the education and leadership development of teen girls and gender-fluid youth to create a more equitable and inclusive future.

Our ideal applicant is interested in pursuing film studies and making a difference within their community by sharing their voices to incite change.

Eligibility:

The scholarship is open to female high school students aged 14 to 18.

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

First-gen college students and/or lower-income students.

Demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities and community service.

Passion for a particular field of study or career path.

A clear vision of how their education will empower them to effect positive change.

Applied for a filmmaking program or similar program.

Application Process:

Applicants are required to submit academic transcripts, a letter of recommendation, a personal essay, and a filmmaking submission (if applicable).

Share a personal story or experience that has influenced your passion for filmmaking and how you envision using the power of film to make a positive impact within your community. Explain why you believe the Hey Shorty scholarship will help you achieve your goals and how you plan to contribute to your community.

Reflect on a film that has had a significant impact on you. Explain how this project influenced your passion for filmmaking and your desire to tell stories through the medium of film. Discuss the importance of representation in filmmaking and how you plan to use film to create change within your community.

Financial Support:

Recipients of the Hey Shorty Scholarship will receive financial assistance to cover tuition, textbooks, and other educational expenses.
